Reporting to the Director of Communications and Marketing, the Communications and Marketing Assistant summer student position provides support to Symphony Nova Scotia’s communications and marketing initiatives.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Researching and writing newsletters, media releases, and other communications materials
  • Providing on-site support during Symphony Nova Scotia summer performances
  • Assisting with the production of Symphony Nova Scotia concert programs
  • Supporting social media communications (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Designing and providing editing support for posters, flyers, ads, and other promotional materials
  • Updating and implementing Symphony Nova Scotia’s annual communications and marketing plan for audiences under age 30
  • Preparing concert listings for print and online publications
  • Other projects as required

  • Very strong writing and editing skills
  • Organized and attentive to detail
  • Able to work independently
  • Creative

Skill areas preferred

  • Solid design skills
  • Proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
  • A passion and appreciation for music, particularly symphonic music

Other requirements

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program, and is therefore only open to eligible students. Students must be:

  • Between 15 and 30 years of age
  • A full-time student in the preceding year
  • Returning to an eligible academic program in the fall

Location and hours

Our admin office is in Park Lane Mall (5657 Spring Garden Road), Halifax. The student will work 35-hour weeks, with one unpaid week off between August 7 and August 10.
