Reporting to the Director of Communications and Marketing, the Communications Manager provides key support to Symphony Nova Scotia’s communications and marketing initiatives.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Researching, writing, editing, and managing delivery of e-newsletters, web content, feature articles, letters, ads, media releases, scripts, presentations, and other communications materials
  • Managing the production of Symphony Nova Scotia concert programs
  • Managing and expanding social media communications (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube)
  • Designing posters, signs, flyers, presentations, and print/web advertisements
  • Providing editing and printing support for brochures, letters, direct mail campaigns, and grant applications
  • Managing and updating the Symphony Nova Scotia website (in WordPress)
  • Attending concerts and supporting the Symphony boutique/merch table
  • Overseeing and implementing targeted direct mail campaigns
  • Supporting patrons and addressing patron concerns
  • Supporting community arts partnerships, outreach activities, and artist communications
  • Other projects as required

Skill areas required

  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Strong design skills, with demonstrated proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
  • Organized and attentive to detail
  • Able to work independently
  • Strong computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Creative and eager to explore new ideas

Skill areas preferred

  • Proficiency with WordPress and basic HTML
  • Video editing experience
  • A passion and appreciation for music and the arts, particularly classical music

Education and experience required

  • Successful completion of post-secondary education; focus in Public Relations or Communications preferred
  • 2+ years’ experience in a communications role

Location and hours

  • Regular hours: Suite 301, Park Lane Mall (5657 Spring Garden Road), Halifax
  • Evening concerts: Dalhousie Arts Centre (6101 University Avenue), Halifax
  • 35-hour weeks, plus after-hours performances
