Margaret Caley serves as the representative for Women for Music on the Board of the Symphony.
She was born and brought up in the Isle of Man, a small island in the middle of the Irish Sea. She immigrated to Halifax in 1976 with her husband Rodney (also Manx born), when he was appointed Editor of Hansard for the N.S. Provincial Legislature.
She worked in accountancy for banks, stockbrokers, and lawyers for many years both in the Island and in Halifax, before becoming a parent.
She joined the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of N.S. in 1977 and was elected Treasurer and was 5 years on the executive board. She sang with the Society for 23 years. Margaret was on the Board of the Halifax High Schools Symphony Orchestra and on the Board of the “Gift Horse” shop of the IWK. She has been a member of the Women for Music for 10 years.
She has enjoyed SNS concerts for many years, also community theatre, Dalhousie productions, and has seen most of “Live from the Met” operas.
Margaret also spends her time playing bridge, gardening and travelling.
Margaret is currently serving a two-year term on the Board.
