Halifax-born violinist Janet Dunsworth studied piano, violin, clarinet, saxophone, and ukulele through the Halifax school system before graduating from Dalhousie University with a music education degree. Further musical studies took her to the Royal Conservatory’s Orchestral Training Program and Meadowmount School in New York.
Janet joined Symphony Nova Scotia in January 1985, after having performed with the Atlantic Symphony, the Hamilton Philharmonic, and the Stratford Festival Orchestra.
In addition to performing with the orchestra, Janet teaches violin and operates a very successful business selling award-winning children’s books (Usborne Books are available through the Symphony Nova Scotia boutique). She is married to Symphony Nova Scotia violinist Peter Stryniak, and together they have two children.
