I joined Symphony Nova Scotia in December of 2023 while I was a student at Saint Mary’s, and I’ve stayed on since then. It has been so fulfilling and joyful to work at the Symphony – I feel fortunate to have the most amazing colleagues one could ask for, an incredibly supportive work environment, and opportunities to learn and work on projects and technologies that I find interesting! Poking at data for insights, tinkering with automation tools, and diving down documentation rabbit holes has never been more satisfying.

Q&A WITH AUDRIE

Why is Symphony Nova Scotia important to our community?
Where do I begin? The Symphony brings so much life and joy to our community! First thing that comes to mind – the little kids in the audience dancing to the music at our free Family Series concerts. Even at our shows in the Cohn, I notice people of all ages in the rows ahead of me bobbing their heads, dancing in their seats, or looking at each other with excitement when a song they particularly like comes on. It’s heartwarming to see people enjoying our shows. Another thing that comes to mind is our Youth Orchestra program that gives young musicians mentorship and opportunities to showcase their talents – I am always blown away by the NSYO concerts!

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy walking around the city – Halifax is full of beautiful sights and interesting places. I’m also a big hobby collector, but I seem to always come back to music in one form or another. At the moment, I practice playing music on the keyboard, sing in a queer community choir, and attend breakdancing classes. I was quite inspired and amazed by Phil Wizard’s performance for Canada at the recent Olympic games.

What’s your favourite food(s)?
It’s really hard to pick a favourite food; it changes depending on my mood! At the moment, I’ll say it’s wood-fired Neapolitan style pizza.
