The festivities will feature Symphony Nova Scotia musicians giving free, live performances for the whole family in our third annual Summer Symphony, as well as a special performance with Thorgy Thor from RuPaul’s Drag Race and the jubilant Last Night of the Proms!

THORGY AND THE THORCHESTRA: BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER!

She’s baaaaack! After last summer’s groundbreaking “Thorgy and the Thorchestra” show – a sold-out smash hit that sparked a social media sensation – the fabulous Thorgy Thor returns to Symphony Nova Scotia! Fresh from encore performances with orchestras across North America, the reigning “Queen of Classical Music” wields her outrageous fashion sense, razor-sharp wit, and virtuoso classical chops to create a thrilling, theatrical, all-new show. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and your heart will throb as Thorgy slays with song, dance, and hilarious shenanigans in this can’t-miss symphonic spectacular!

FREE: FIFTH WIND AT THE STUBBORN GOAT WATERFRONT BEER GARDEN

Featuring Fifth Wind Woodwind Quintet (Jack Chen, flute; Suzanne Lemieux, oboe; Eileen Walsh, clarinet; Ivor Rothwell, bassoon; and Mary Lee, horn)

The delightful Fifth Wind Quintet, made up of multiple Symphony Nova Scotia musicians, presents a free afternoon concert on the waterfront at the Stubborn Goat Beer Garden! Sit back and relax with your favourite drinks and eats by the harbour and enjoy a variety of tunes, complete with entertaining stories and commentary.

Seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please note: Children are welcome in the beer garden with a legal guardian.

Get to know your orchestra from the inside out in this fun, free, family-friendly concert at the Halifax Central Library’s O’Regan Hall! Join Symphony Nova Scotia, conductor Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser, and special guest hornist Mimisu Lee for a lively lineup of instrument demos and behind-the-scenes stories, plus summery symphonic highlights from Beethoven, Mozart, Johnny Cash, Journey, and more.

Seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis, so arrive early to get a spot!

 


THE LAST NIGHT OF THE PROMS!

For over 100 years, London’s annual summer Proms festival has been a British national triumph – and biggest of all is the boisterous final hurrah, the Last Night of the Proms. Now, here’s your chance to experience our own summer Proms concert right here in Halifax, just in time for Natal Day! Hear Symphony Nova Scotia perform all the glorious traditional Proms staples, like Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia, highlights from Gilbert & Sullivan, and, of course, a rousing, sing-along rendition of Jerusalem – plus beloved symphonic classics like Sibelius’ Finlandia, Elgar’s Nimrod, and the delightful Dam Busters March. Unfurl your flags, button your braces, and bring your best singing voice to this grand musical celebration!
