About the Artists: 

Andrei Feher, conductor

Canadian-Romanian conductor Andrei Feher has earned a reputation for his musical maturity and integrity, natural authority on the podium, and an imaginative and intelligent approach to programming. He is hailed for his “ability to connect with his players, using their skills as if they were the piano and he the pianist” (The Record).

A strong advocate of contemporary music, Feher has recently performed works by Eric Champagne, Pierre Mercure, George Dimitrov, Ciprian Pop and Abigail Richardson, as well as the world premiere of Thierry Besancon’s opera for children Les Zoocrates with Opéra de Lausanne. In November 2015, Feher conducted the world premiere of Soleil Noir by Pierre Jodlowski with the Orchestre de Pau-Béarn, which resulted in an immediate invitation to conduct the work in Toulouse in November 2016.

Born in Romania into a family of musicians, Feher began his musical education as a violinist in his hometown Satu-Mare with Nagy Margareta before continuing his studies in Montréal at age 13 when his family immigrated to Canada. An accomplished violinist, he studied at Joseph-François-Perrault and at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal with Johanne Arel and Raffi Armenian. Feher is based in Montréal with his wife and two young sons.

Teo Gheorghiu, piano

Teo Gheorghiu is above all a “poetic storyteller” (Neue Zürcher Zeitung) and his captivating style has fascinated audiences at venues such as Wigmore Hall and the Barbican. He has played to great acclaim with orchestras like the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. He has collaborated with conductors such as Sir Neville Marriner, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Matthias Pintscher and Alexander Shelley. Critics have praised his “blinding clarity” (Tribune de Geneve), and the “imagination of sound” (Alain Cochard, Concert Classic), that lends itself to “thrilling playing” (General-Anzeiger Bonn). He frequently collaborates with his mentor, Maria Joao Pires, and has played at her Belgais Center for Arts. He was elected Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) in 2023.

Born near Zurich, Swiss-Canadian pianist Teo Gheorghiu burst on the music scene when he won first prize at the International San Marino Piano Competition in 2004 and followed up with the top award at the Franz Liszt International Competition in Weimar. He captivated hearts in the moving film about a music prodigy Vitus (2006), with Bruno Ganz. At the age of 18 he was the youngest recipient of the Beethoven Ring at the Beethoven Fest in Bonn and in 2017 he received the Best Canadian Artist award at the Concours Musicale International in Montreal.

Teo Gheorghiu regularly collaborates with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra and is Artistic Director of Société des Concerts de Fribourg. He is a Steinway artist, and has recorded with Deutsche Grammophon, Sony Classics, and Claves labels. His repertoire comprises the full range of European composers, from Bach and Enescu, to Bartók and Gurdjieff. Teo speaks Romanian, German, French, and English. Embracing his multicultural background led him to explore his Romanian ancestry, and he released Roots in 2022.

Here are a couple handy tips when booking tickets on the Dalhousie Box Office website:

• You’ll be asked to log in to book your tickets. If you’re not sure you have an account, click “Forgot your password?”

• You’ll need to choose a Delivery Method:
  • If you choose “Hold at Box Office”, you’ll need to pick up your tickets when you arrive, up to 1 hour before the concert. We recommend this for easy exchanges throughout the season!
  • If you choose “Print at Home”, your tickets will be included with your confirmation email as a PDF attachment.
• You will receive an email confirmation from the Box Office.
