“I’m delighted to announce Symphony Nova Scotia’s 2022/23 concert season! We can’t wait to join you in the concert hall for a full season of fabulous live music and unforgettable experiences.
“It’s difficult to choose highlights – I love the whole season! – but there are some really special treats, including two of the most iconic “5th symphonies” in history: Beethoven and Sibelius! Plus, hear the return of Last Night of the Proms, Rose Cousins, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Mendelssohn’s magnificent Elijah, and so much more!”

Our 2022/23 lineup: Spotlight Concerts
- Nova Scotia’s own Jeff Joudrey leads Symphony Nova Scotia and an 80-voice chorus in Mendelssohn’s most iconic creation: Elijah.
- Symphony Nova Scotia’s former Concertmaster Robert Uchida returns to Halifax with cellist Joe Johnson to perform Brahms’ spectacular Double Concerto.
- We’ll partner with truly exceptional guests, including pianists Marc-André Hamelin and Sara Davis Buechner, cellist Inbal Segev, and violinist Kerson Leong.
- Hear the rich, expressive playing of pianist Andrew Armstrong in Mozart’s transcendent and deeply emotional Piano Concerto No. 27.
- We have some gorgeous new-to-us works, including Anna Clyne’s beautiful Dance, Florence Price’s sweepingly romantic Piano Concerto, and Jessie Montgomery’s vivacious Starburst.
- Then, Symphony Nova Scotia’s expanded orchestra proudly presents an explosive season grand finale concert, highlighting the soaring music of Sibelius!

Our 2022/23 lineup: Fusion Concerts
- Back by popular demand! We once again present our own tongue-in-cheek Last Night of the Proms concert, right here in Halifax!
- After many, many sold-out concerts, Jim Witter returns with his original hit show, The Piano Men: A Tribute to Billy Joel and Elton John.
- We team up with Maritime star performers like David Myles, Rose Cousins, and Ashley MacIsaac, who will also bring special guest Morgan Toney!
- East Coast music legend Heather Rankin reprises her hit holiday show, this time including special guest fiddlers Cassie and Maggie, music from The Rankin Sisters, and more!
- We’re bringing back a bright, sparkling concert celebrating some of Broadway’s greatest hits– including Phantom of the Opera, Cats, and The Lion King!
- We join forces with award-winning PEI songstress Catherine MacLellan for a special tribute to Springhill’s own Anne Murray!
- Get your tickets early for the Music of the Beatles – this one is sure to sell out!

Our 2022/23 lineup: Baroque Concerts
- Tafelmusik’s Julia Wedman leads our orchestra in one the most popular works from the Baroque era: Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
- We take a delightful journey back to 18th-century Europe with baroque specialist Ivars Taurins to explore S. Bach’s busy life in 1722.
- Alexander Weimann joins us for a beautiful all-Bach concert, featuring highlights like the majestic Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 and the delightful Suite No. 3.
- Handel’s Water Music is one of the Baroque era’s smash hits, and we bring this to you together with Jonathan Cohen, the acclaimed Music Director of Quebec’s Les Violons du Roy.

Our 2022/23 lineup: Special Concerts
- Our annual hit The Nutcracker is one of Halifax’s favourite holiday traditions, and it’s finally back for its 30th anniversary season!
- Experience the huge, lush sounds of not one, but two orchestras side by side in the long-awaited return of our joint concert with the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra!
- Experience the beauty and joy of Handel’s Messiah with the acclaimed Canadian bassoonist/conductor Mathieu Lussier.
- Our FREE Family Series will continue, with three brand-new programs at Pier 21 and Alderney Landing.
- The Berkeley Seniors’ Series returns with all-new free programs especially for seniors at the Halifax Central Library!

Symphony Nova Scotia is proud to present Nova Scotia’s finest symphony of young people in these vibrant, exciting performances.
- Halifax Circus and the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra explore an unexpected flurry of music and motion!
- Come kick up your heels with the first-ever Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra dance party that mixes bombastic orchestral bangers like the Can-Can with with international hits like Malkit Singh’s Mama Bada Great!
- The Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra performs a classic lineup in the grand orchestral tradition – but with a variety of fabulous new works!
