Provincial Tour

For the first time since 2007, Symphony Nova Scotia and guest artist Canadian cellist Denise Djokic will bring an inspiring symphonic experience to eight communities around the province.*

DENISE DJOKIC PLAYS HAYDN

Featuring: Holly Mathieson, conductor
Denise Djokic, cello

On the program:

  • Dinuk Wijeratne: Yatra
  • Franz Joseph Haydn: Cello Concerto in C Major
  • L. Christopher Palmer: 40th Anniversary Commission
  • Louise Farrenc: Symphony No. 3

We bring you the crowning achievement of Louise Farrenc, one of France’s greatest 19th-century composers, to start our 40th Spotlight season with gusto. The expressive and spirited Cello Concerto in C Major, gifted by Haydn to a good friend, will be richly interpreted by Nova Scotia’s own Denise Djokic. Rounding out the program is Dinuk Wijeratne’s Yatra, a work we commissioned to celebrate Canada’s sesquicentennial, and a new composition especially for our 40th from Symphony Nova Scotia bassoonist Christopher Palmer.
