Inspired by the childhood of real-life astronaut Chris Hadfield and brought to life by Terry and Eric Fan’s lush, evocative illustrations, The Darkest Dark will encourage readers to dream the impossible.

Chris loves rockets and planets and pretending he’s a brave astronaut, exploring the universe. Only one problem–at night, Chris doesn’t feel so brave. He’s afraid of the dark.

But when he watches the groundbreaking moon landing on TV, he realizes that space is the darkest dark there is–and the dark is beautiful and exciting, especially when you have big dreams to keep you company.

Presale price: $25
Hardcover: 208 pages
Average customer reviews: 4.5/5.0

A playful, thought-provoking and visually delightful photo tour of Earth from the astronaut who made us fall in love with our planet all over again…

The millions of us who followed Chris Hadfield’s tweets from space thought we knew what we were looking at when we first saw his photos of Earth. We definitely caught the beauty but we may have missed the full meaning. Now, with a collection of his favorite, never-before-shared images, Hadfield helps us see the big picture: why our planet looks the way it does and why we live where we do. Drawing on his in-depth knowledge of geology, geography and meteorology, he takes us on a planetary photo tour – an idealized orbit of Earth – and explains the mysteries these stunning images reveal. You Are Here opens a singular window on our planet, using remarkable photographs to illuminate the history and the consequences of human settlement, the magnificence (and wit) of never-before-noticed landscapes, and the power of the natural forces shaping our world and the future of our species.

An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth

An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth

Presale price: $25
Hardcover: 320 pages
Average customer reviews: 4.7/5.0

As Commander of the International Space Station, Chris Hadfield captivated the world with stunning photos and commentary from space. In his first book, Chris offers readers extraordinary stories from his life as an astronaut, and shows how to make the impossible a reality.

Chris Hadfield decided to become an astronaut after watching the Apollo moon landing with his family on Stag Island, Ontario, when he was nine years old, when there was no Canadian Astronaut Program. In 2013, he served as Commander of the International Space Station orbiting the Earth during a five-month mission. Fulfilling this lifelong dream required intense focus, natural ability and a singular commitment to “thinking like an astronaut.” In An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth, Chris gives us a rare insider’s perspective on just what that kind of thinking involves, and how earthbound humans can use it to achieve success and happiness in their lives. Written with humour, humility and a profound optimism for the future, An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth offers readers not just the inspiring story of one man’s journey to the ISS, but the opportunity to step into his space-boots and think like an astronaut— and renew their commitment to pursuing their own dreams, big or small.

Space Sessions

Space Sessions: Songs from a Tin Can

Presale price: $15
Audio CD
Average customer reviews: 4.6/5.0

With Chris’s guitar and vocal tracks recorded in space, Space Sessions: Songs From a Tin Can has the distinction of being the world’s first ‘off planet’ album.

The album underscores the importance that music has always had to Col. Hadfield wherever he is, whether in space or at home on Earth. “The serenity and grace I felt while orbiting our Earth, weightless by the window, gave a whole new place to write and perform music. I’m delighted to be able to share these completed works as a new way to help tell the stories of early space exploration.” In 2013, Col. Hadfield spent five months aboard the International Space Station. In the evenings, following days full of scientific experiments, Col. Hadfield would play the onboard Larrivee guitar, recording music and vocals he’d written alone, as well as with his brother and his son. Once back on Earth, Juno Award-winning producer Robbie Lackritz was recruited to help finish the music. The album also has the bonus track of David Bowie’s Space Oddity – Chris’s on-orbit version has been seen over 31 million times on YouTube.
