Symphony Nova Scotia Performs Spectacular Holiday Favourites

Halifax/K’jipuktuk, NS – Symphony Nova Scotia brings comfort and joy this season with a spectacular lineup of holiday programming for all ages.

The Celtic Tenors are a chart-topping, million-record-selling global phenomenon, and their previous collaborations with Symphony Nova Scotia have sold out with rave reviews. Now, these virtuoso tenors return to Halifax with another blockbuster holiday show, celebrating the spectacular sounds of Christmas. From classic Christmas carols like O Holy Night, Joy to the World, and We Three Kings to beloved Celtic favourites, this beautiful blend of Irish roots, classical training, and polished, magnificent music is the can’t-miss concert of the holiday season.

Symphony Nova Scotia’s The Nutcracker has been Halifax’s favourite holiday tradition for over 30 years, featuring upwards of 20 local dancers, some as young as nine years old, in a myriad of roles. Adapted from the original story by E.T.A. Hoffmann, a young girl’s toy comes to life and she is whisked away to an enchanted world where she meets magical creatures, colourful new friends, and the ferocious Mouse Queen. Complete with larger-than-life puppets, spirited dancing, and Tchaikovsky’s iconic, hauntingly beautiful music, this production is a beloved holiday tradition in collaboration with Halifax Dance and Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia.

A magnificent tour de force, Handel’s Messiah is an electrifying masterpiece, and a highlight of the Christmas season for millions around the world every year. We’re thrilled to welcome guest conductor Vicki St. Pierre, a contralto and specialist in early music with a doctorate in Vocal Performance from the University of Toronto, who has performed internationally and directed choirs across Canada and the UK. Together with four guest vocal soloists – soprano Miriam Khalil, mezzo-soprano Christianne Rushton, tenor Asitha Tennekoon, baritone Jesse Blumberg – and the 80-voice Symphony Nova Scotia Chorus led by Joel Tranquilla with core choir the Halifax Camerata Singers, St. Pierre and the Symphony are proud to present Handel’s glorious oratorio.

Tickets for each of these three holiday concerts can be purchased by calling 902.494.3820 or online at symphonynovascotia.ca. Ticket packages offer great savings and are still available.
