A message from our CEO about The Nutcracker

Dear friends,

We are deeply saddened to share news of yet another cancellation. Following on last week’s provincial pandemic announcement, we will no longer be able to record and present our condensed online performance of ’Twas the Night Before Nutcracker this December.

This production was truly a beacon of hope for all of us here at Symphony Nova Scotia, Halifax Dance, and Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, and I know our disappointment will be shared by many throughout our community. For 30 years, The Nutcracker has been part of our collective holiday celebrations here in Halifax, and its absence this year will be sorely missed.

While you won’t see our new production this December, we want to reassure you that it remains in development, and we are committed to sharing it with you in 2021. Our fantastic team has worked very hard on this project, and we know you’ll be delighted and enchanted by what they’ve created.

Throughout December, we’ll instead be sharing a variety of Nutcracker stories, memories, and activities online in “12 Days of Nutcracker”. To join in the fun, follow Symphony Nova Scotia on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, or visit symphonynovascotia.ca.

I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all who worked so hard on this project: our artistic partners at Halifax Dance and Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, our friends at Halifax Central Library, our Nutcracker sponsor Wilsons, our technical and production team, our musicians, and of course, our incredibly talented and hardworking dancers. As always, we are truly honoured and inspired by your creativity, resourcefulness, generosity, and shared passion for The Nutcracker in our community.

Thank you to all who have shared your support and enthusiasm for this project. We wish you health, peace, and wellness in these coming weeks, and look forward to brighter days in 2021.

With best wishes,

Chris Wilkinson
CEO, Symphony Nova Scotia
