Jump into Spring with Symphony Nova Scotia

Halifax/K’jipuktuk, NS – Symphony Nova Scotia continues celebrating its 40th Anniversary Season throughout April and May with more popular favourites and remarkable guest artists.

Nova Scotia’s favourite singer-pianist Jim Witter returns with the soulful music of American legends Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. Never one to disappoint, Jim’s performances are always upbeat, fun, and exciting, and his multi-media presentation evokes fond memories of the ’70s and ’80s.

Next is a concert filled with Heroic Blockbuster Movie Hits from beloved series such as Star WarsStar TrekWonder WomanBatmanFrozenBlack PantherSpider-Man, and more. Ideal for families, this concert is perfect to introduce young people to the joys of symphonic music.

Music Director Holly Mathieson leads a beautiful concert of compositions by Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy, highlighting the excellent musicians of Nova Scotia’s only professional orchestra as they perform rich, dream-like, romantic works. JUNO Award-winning Canadian pianist Philip Chiu guest stars to perform Ravel’s brilliant and light-hearted Piano Concerto in G Major. This concert is also available to livestream at symphonynovascotia.ca.

Our upcoming collaboration with Nova Scotia’s beloved indie pop group Hillsburn will be their final farewell concert. This show is special as the band says, “it’s been a long-time dream of ours to play with the Symphony,” and they’ve decided to make this career highlight their final performance. Symphony Nova Scotia is incredibly grateful to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime collaboration.

Our classical season concludes with Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, which has been called his last grand experiment, the pinnacle of western classical music, and the symphony to end all symphonies. Holly Mathieson conducts this spectacular program with guest vocalists Miriam Khalil, Marion Newman, Ernesto Ramirez, and Jorell Williams, plus the 80-voice Symphony Nova Scotia Chorus with the Halifax Camerata Singers and chorus master Joel Tranquilla.

North Preston vocal powerhouse Reeny and her sister Haliey end the Symphony’s 2023/24 season on a high note with smooth sibling harmonies and a sweeping symphonic performance. After a stunning collaboration for our online Fusion Sessions, we’ve invited them back for a brand-new program of lush symphonic arrangements, extraordinary energy, and spectacular homegrown soul.

Tickets can be purchased through the Dalhousie Arts Centre Box Office at 902.494.38206101 University Ave, or symphonynovascotia.ca. Tickets range in price between $20 and $85 (HST included, plus DAC service fees).
