Alumni

Our alumni have gone on to do amazing things! With over 1,000 alumni from our 45-year history living and working all over the world, we’re proud to have had such a positive impact on the young musicians of Nova Scotia.

Many of our alumni have gone on to successful careers in music, including as performers, composers, university professors, and school teachers. Others have applied the skills learned at the NSYO toward other fields, having since become doctors, lawyers, teachers, company executives, and more.

Are you an NSYO alumni member? We encourage you to join our alumni group on Facebook here. Also, we’d love to stay in touch with you, and hear what you’re up to! Please email [email protected] and let us know what you’re up to now, musically or otherwise!

What Our Past Musicians Say

“The spirited humour of the orchestra members that goes hand in hand with the disciplined work we do has been one of my favorite things about my experience.”
– Kelvin Mansaray, NSYO Alumni, Violin

“The amount of love and effort that the NSYO musicians demonstrate in concert and rehearsal exemplifies the importance of music in formative years and beyond.”
– Laura Chan, NSYO Alumni, Trombone

“Music is about human connectedness, so having a little society in Nova Scotia that helps young people discover that is really powerful.”
– India Gailey, NSYO Alumni, Cello

“I can confidently say that without the NSYO and the spark it created, I would never have experienced one of the most important journeys of my life, and the wonderful and profound lessons it shared with me.”
